My husband’s job is contacted monday to friday 9am - 5pm. With travelling time he is out from about 7.45am until at least 6.30pm depending on the traffic. He is currently working on a project within the company which I understand is a high-paid, high-pressured job but he is being made to work late nights and weekends (including sundays) with little or no notice. We have 2 young children who are at school and nursery during the week and because of all this overtime they are not seeing him for more than a hour or so a day. I know it probably sounds pathetic but I am unable to plan anything because he may be called into work with no notice as they are ‘behind’. Is his employer allowed to do this or is there a minimum period of notice they have to give. What if we have plans for the weekend (which should be his days off), does my husband have the right to refuse to work without incurring a disciplinery or worse? Any advice would be gratefully received.
