Open Question: Am I on the right track with my blood pressure? It was 151 the last time I checked it, but…?

…I always get nervous when I check my blood pressure at home. It’s usually in the 140s or high 130s when it’s taken at the doctor’s office because I feel better because I’m getting treated.
My pulse is consistently around 80 to 85 beats a minute although when I’m really relaxed it can be around 78.
I weighed about 190 but I’ve been walking and I’ve gone down to about 182 in about a month and a half.
I don’t remember the bottom number, but the top one is in the 140s. Am I on the right track?
I’ve been eating right and I don’t drink or smoke and I don’t have any caffeine.
How long do you think it will be before I get it at least in the 120s?
If it stays in the 140s or high 130s, how long should I wait before I go on blood pressure medication?
I’ve had this situation for almost two years and I’m 29. My doctor doesn’t want to put me on medication just yet.
Edit: I should add that I used to drink too much and I recently made some big lifestyles changes. I’ve already noticed some results in a month and a half but it still seems a little too high but I’m not too concerned.
