I find it interesting in talking to Americans on here how they perceive the world and their own government / systems.

One thing I’ve noticed is a tendency to say that you (Americans) need guns so that if the government ever becomes tyrannical, you can defend yourself / storm the White House and correct the course of the country.

That being said, it seems Americans will live with anything short of outright tyranny quite happily and not have any inclination to get off the couch.

The government is clearly (even to us outsiders) taking away American civil liberties. It’s tapping your phone lines, talking about tracking implants as if that’s reasonable and and people sit for it. People do nothing to stop it. On the flip side, they increase your living costs (eg, mandatory insurance), they don’t provide enough funding for schools, they allow the rich poor gap to escalate, they don’t pay their bills allowing the country to go to the brink of disaster and what do Americans do about it? Nothing. Whine a lot, but nothing that would mean anything. Why?

I also notice a very negative opinion of France. That they’re losers or gay. I never hear anyone refer to the drastically higher QOL enjoyed by French citizens. In all categories, the life of a French person is better. They live longer, are generally healthier, lower weight, fewer working hours, higher wages, lower cost of living, far better social services, the cities are cleaner, and on and on. I also never hear how in France, the people don’t allow the government to get away with what Americans would. And they don’t even have guns.

So what is this mentality, and why is it? Why do nothing? Why do Americans mumble instead of apply firm pressure to the government to straighten up? Is it because the government has the people bamboozled? That they’ve divided people so they won’t unite against the government on a common front? Is it laziness? Is it over-reliance on hand guns solving any issue?

In my finished basement, my washer sits directly behind a wall from the sink in my small bar kitchen. On the floor in that kitchen there is a covered drain with a clean out?!? When my washer hits rinse cycle, the water exits the washer into the tube, into a pvc pipe that disappears through the wall into a T under the sink. Normally it would drain out and the backup into the sink would be very minor. I know this doesn’t sound ideal, but it was working and i’ve only owned the house 2 years so i didn’t complain.

Now, when it hits drain before rinse and spin, the sink overflows unless i interrupt the drain cycle and give it time to recede. Now, on the floor the covered (softball size manhole cover with swisscheese like holes in it) drain makes gurgling noises. The house is 50 years old.

My questions are as follows…

A) Can i pour any drain cleaners down the sink or into the floor drain? I don’t wait to destroy old pipes that could be infested quite possibly with roots of the large trees in my back yard.

B) What is the name of the device that’s like a balloon that you can screw onto a hose…i thought i could use one of these to build pressure up and push the clog out of the underground pipe that appears to be clogged.

C) From the sounds of this situation, what would you recommend overall. Thanks for your help!!

Well, one of my bad habits is that I consume pencil leads. I have read that their non toxic because they don’t really contain any lead and they’re made out of graphite and clay. The problem is that I’m concerned and I help stop eating them. Also, I do house cleaning as well and I have to mop, climb stairs and sweep floors . When I do so sometimes I get tired and feel pressure on my lower abdomen. I mean, I don’t feel cramping but I wonder if that affects me or my baby and I hope I wont deliver soon because of that. Please answer my questions if you guys have had any experience with these, but don’t judge me on the eating pencil lead problem that I have because I can seem to stop doing that..

Easy best answer! =D
Here is my short story.
It should include all the components of one: expositon, conflict, climax, resolution, etc.
Please read it and tell me what i should change and if i did the dialogue right.
Thankyou! (It’s quite long. About 900 words)

Her mind raced as she hastily gathered her things into her large, beige suitcases. It was a sunny Friday morning in Manhattan, New York, Upper East Side. Her parents were still at work and her two gifted sisters were at Ivy League schools. Her flight was at 2 o’clock. She knew her parents had a safe in their bedroom and as she reached into the safe with her sweaty palm, she felt a bit guilty. In a second, that feeling vanished. She took a million dollars with her. She stuck a note to the fridge to explain her departure, tears rolling down her face. She called a cab and sped down the roads to John F. Kennedy International Airport. In a matter of minutes, she was on her way to Le Cordon Bleu, a cooking school in France. She was sad to leave her palatial home, with its high ceilings, dark wood and child-hood memories.

18-year-old Lillian Cassidy was no typical teenager. Talented, intelligent and warm-hearted, she failed at nothing. Everyone called her Lily. Tall and slender, with peachy, smooth skin and innocent hazel eyes, she was breath-taking. Graduation was approaching and everything in life seemed good. Her family was still together and they were tremendously wealthy. But unlike other rich girls in her neighborhood, she could care less about money.
Her parents stressed how important school was. Lily was tired of all the pressure and wanted to follow her dream, of which she knew her parents would not approve. She struggled to live a normal life.
It was hard to find an affluent family that stayed together for so many years. Lily’s best friend, Diana Leighton, had a family that was broken to pieces, leaving only her and her mother. At least her mother was filthy rich. Diana was, reckless, but bright and cheery. She could get into any school of her choice. They were both initially going to go to Princeton, together, but at Canterbury Academy, two months before school ended, Lily revealed her astonishing plan to her.

“I knew you had a passion for food, but I didn’t know it was to this extent,” she laughed.
Just the reaction Lily expected.
“Yeah, well…”
“I’ll come too,” she added, smiling. “My mom won’t care.”
“Sure, if you want…”
“I’ll provide financial support!” she joked. “So no worries, okay?”
“But first, we I need a plan,” Lily whispered.
****
No two months in Lily’s life would be as hard as the two she was about to face. Without a doubt, she was going to follow through with it. She got two jobs to pay for her plane ticket to France. She already had some money saved. She couldn’t get the money from her parents because that would just make them suspicious. Diana offered her the money, but she refused to take it. Diana spent money freely. She had no restrictions.
One week, on her way to her first job, Lily bumped into a young man who looked like he was around her age. His bag dropped and out fell one or two books and a bunch of papers. As they bent down to pick up his papers, she carefully studied his face. He was handsome, with very short, dark brown hair and well-dressed.

“Ugh,” he sighed. He seemed like he was in a hurry.
“I’m so sorry.”
“Whatever. Thanks anyways.” he said.

Every weekday, on her way to work, she would look forward to seeing his face. On weekends, she worked at a diner. She never saw him there.
“Hi, uh, coffee please?” a *** voice asked Lily.
As she turned around, she was surprised to see the face of that young man she had been admiring for the past week.

“Oh, I remember you,” he said with a grin. “I’m Adam Alderidge. And you are?”
“Lillian Cassidy, but you can call me Lily. You look exhausted.”
“Yeah, this job is killing me,” he explained. “I’m set to go to Harvard next year.”
“Wow.”
“I know, except… I’m just so tired of all of this pressure.”
“I know how you feel,” she scoffed.

The two of them spent the lunch hour chatting about how similar there lives were. He was rich and smart, but wanted to become a pastry chef. She wanted to become a chef. For some reason, she felt like explaining her master plan to him. He laughed at it. Every weekend, at lunch Lily would see him. Soon they started to bond. Adam was the same age, but from another private school.

Adam decided that he would be joining Lily in France. To make it more fun for Lily, Diana and Adam got jobs too. For seven weeks, they all worked like an animals. They sold milkshakes, clothes and cleaned floors ecstatically because soon they would be freed from their parents’ grasps.

I need to know how to treat a bullet wound in the arm on the top part of the bicept. The bullet went clean through, the exit wound is larger, the entry is very small. Right now we have applied pressure by wrapping it with a towel very tightly. How can we seal the wound and prevent infection? We are unable to go to a hospital for reasons so dont say just call a ambulance.

Any advice is welcome, but in general, I am asking about what kinds of preventative measures I can take to prevent things like Alzheimer’s, high blood pressure, etc. Relationship and career advice is also welcome!

The last question like this was three years old so I’ll write down the advice that still holds (medically) so no one has to repeat it.

Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits
Drink plenty of water
Get plenty of sleep
Take enough calcium (and vitamin D)
Don’t stay up late (once in a while is fine and great fun)
Don’t get drunk (regular moderate drinking may have health benefits though)
Check breasts regularly for lumps (I am a guy, but whatever)Don’t sleep around, can lead to cervical cancer, as well as a bad reputation. not to mention STDsClean your skin properly after wearing makeup and use moisturiser daily. including sunscreenWear protective gloves when using detergent.
Keep on learning, stay in school, take a class at a community college
Don’t wear heels often (Running/walking shoes are the best but not very stylish! choose carefully)
Lift weights moderately (moderate weight, moderate repetitions, moderate frequency)
Don’t eat much junk food (about 10% or two meals a week if you eat three meals a day)
Don’t smoke (no drugs)
Don’t have too many stressors (like work or other commitments)
Get plenty of fresh air (Don’t live in a city or anywhere with bad air pollution)
Don’t play rough sports regularly (like football or boxing or even running, marathons=pain)

These last two may be the most important:
Have plenty of sex.
Don’t have children.
Now that I think of it, because I expect the list to get longer and longer, if there are any websites with information like this, please post it. I am sure there are ones for things like Alzheimer’s or diabetes.

I want to edit it I just don’t know how, I don’t know what to add and what to take off. I thought a brief summary of what I have experience in would help but I’m not to sure on that!

I am aware that most people on yahoo answers are not health professionals or doctors which is why I seek merely opinions and nothing more. I will now offer you some symptoms and problems I have been having which has lead me to think that I may have some form of autism.

Bright lights

I have trouble working in extreme temperatures where there is a lot of sunlight beating on my face. The sunlight causes a feeling of pressure in my sinus are and causes dizziness. I have trouble with florescent light mainly because they cause me to feel over heated and they make my eyes burn. It starts off slow and becomes worse if I spend more them 30 minutes in them.

Textures.

I have trouble rubbing are cotton shirt merely on the fact that it causes this electrical sensation to go through my body which causes me to quintch. If someone rubs are shirt or anything of which makes a rubbing noise it literally causes great discomfort to me.

Muscle strength.

I have trouble grasping things with my entire hand but rather use my finger tips to pick things up.

Hygiene.

I am a little embarrassed to say this but sometimes I forget to were deodorant. Its basically like the thought is never in my head. The same with brushing my teeth. I have to remind my self to brush. While I am in the shower I cant clean my entire body at once but clean each individual limb one at a time.

Learning.

I have trouble learning math. Being 100% honest because of this problem I failed high school because of this and because the teachers didn’t know how to help me. I have trouble taking things in and understanding what I am reading. In school up to about 8th grade I was a OK student but as things became harder I started to fail and struggle miserably. I also had trouble caring about my work. If a teacher would hand me an assignment I would look at the paper and couldn’t understand what to do. I basically have to have someone work with me one on one to learn. I cant do things alone in a classroom environment. I am not showed what to do ill never do it or start my assignment. I am of course 22 years old now but I am letting you know how it was for me in high school.

Social problems.

I have trouble making friends with people my own age. I seem to make friends with children and young teens. My brother and parents have noticed this. My brothers tells me how I act like I am about 8 years old personality wise. I am able to do adult things but when it comes to friendships I act a lot younger then I am.

I am unable to gain new hobbies. So does this sound like a form of autism? Have you read or have experienced something like this? Whats your humble opinion? Where should I seek help?
